All the universities in Tampere Region have been participating and coordinating many EU funded projects RDI projects. In addition to the multidisciplinary university there is also a university of applied sciences and police university college.


University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology merged and form a new foundation-based Tampere University as of 2019.

It is the second largest university and one of the most multidisciplinary universities in Finland. Community is made up of more than 30,000 students and close to 5,000 employees and almost all internationally recognised fields of study are represented at the university.

Tampere University is involved in tens of Horizon 2020 funded projects.

Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) is one of the largest and most popular universities of applied sciences in Finland. As of 2019 Tampere University is a majority shareholder of Tampere University of Applied Sciences.

The Police University College, located in Tampere, is a training institute under the direction of the Ministry of the Interior. It is responsible for police training recruitment, for selection of students for diploma and advanced programmes, for organizing diploma and advanced studies, for further training given in the training institute and for research and development in the police field.

The Police University College does value research in the area of security. Some of the project are Horizon 2020 funded.
