Smart Tampere is a key project of the city of Tampere. the project consists of three components:
The digitalization objective is driving towards making everyday life easier in Tampere. The Program searches for new, handy and accessible digital services. The goal is to be able to offer all Tampere city’s services as digital by 2025.
Tampere ecosystems are built under seven smart themes: mobility, health, industry, government & citizen, infrastructure, buildings and education. Other vital elements are digital connectivity, analytics & AI and user experience. Tampere wants to be a forerunner in the smart city scene and seeks partners in companies and organizations in order to develop digital services and other smart city solutions. The aim is to develop products and services that meet the needs of other smart cities around the world.
Tampere sustainable development objectives are to bear responsibility for well-being of the environment by acting in an ecologically, socially, culturally and economically sustainable manner, to be carbon neutral in 2030, and to value nature, conserve natural resources and reduce emissions.

EU requires a smart specialisation strategy (S3) in which a region examines its own strengths and competitive advantages. S3 is based on the strengths of research and innovation activities and their utilisation in business development and improving employment.
