The common goal of the Tampere City Region is to be a carbon neutral region by 2030. The goal is to reduce the city region’s greenhouse gas emissions by 80 %, compared to 2007 levels, by 2030. The final 20 % of emissions will be sequestered and offset.

Tampere City Region’s climate targets are the most ambitious in the nation. Emission reduction targets are shared between the municipalities, and each will introduce emission reduction measures appropriate to them.

The Carbon Neutral Tampere Region 2030 target will be guided by the common climate roadmap for the city region. In addition, the city region’s municipalities are preparing their own roadmap for reducing emissions based on the regional model.  The roadmap includes collective climate targets agreed on by the municipalities, as well as municipality-specific measures. A joint regional roadmap was planned and approved in 2019.

Tampere City Region consists of eight municipalities of Tampere, Kangasala, Nokia, Orivesi, Ylöjärvi, Lempäälä, Pirkkala and Vesilahti. It’s an attractive growth centre of 400 000 residents.
